Sunday, 25-Apr-10 14:34:12 GMTIs anyone here have ever installed an ham radio transceiver inside an hybrid car or even better inside Honda civic Hybrid (HCH II)?
I begin to search how I will do my installation and how it would be different than a conventional car.
The radio I want use 12.5a mac on 12v, I assume the car as enough power for it on 12v, but I have no clue.

Monday, 26-Apr-10 08:45:18 GMTI have a friend that runs not only 2m from his Prius, but HF (ic706mk2g) as well. His trick? he's installed a somewhat larger auxillary battery. I'm not familiar with the Civic hybrid, but I would assume that the car accessories run off of something like a small motorcycle battery... you may want to look at a larger rechargable battery that would be put in paralell with the accessory battery so that the charging system would charge it , and not be on the main powerplant system.
Just a thought, but it can be done!

Monday, 03-May-10 08:23:18 GMTOK, I got the information...
How he did it was to install another battery along with the original motorcycle battery, using a 10-ohm resistor between the 2 batteries, so that the larger battery gets charged by the automobile's charging system.
Hope this helps!
