The Franche-Comté is one of 26 administrative regions of France (including overseas), bordering the Rhône-Alpes regions, Bourgogne, Champagne-Ardenne, Lorraine and Alsace and border with Switzerland. It covers 16,232 square kilometers, of which 7100 occupied by forests. The regional prefecture and main city is Besancon.
