PROPAGATION:

NEWS/UPDATES:

15.08.11 : Unreal is currently being tested. Thanks to Yves for the step-by-step installation guide.

09.08.11 : Interference has started around here, affecting HF and low VHF (including BandII upto about 93 MHz before it drops off. It is a nasty buzz sound (cheap switchmode PSU?). I do hope to find the source and obliterate it (literally if I have to ;).

Currently, the node is operational about 50% of the time, whilst I'm not in the shack, or not using too demanding programs, the node will remain operational, however, If I am using big programs such as photoshop, or watching films online etc, the node will have to be switched off during that time. I'm sure you can appreciate my compromised situation. (updated 14/02/11 1600UTC)

Greetings from o_blackburn, the node owner...

This receiver is aimed at expert FM(BandII) DXers who are competent in this area of the hobby, hence the sophisticated radio/antenna system.

There is both Horizontal and Vertical Polarization available. Directivity on the vertical will obviously be compromised to some degree due to interaction of the pole. Currently this cannot be helped but it will be rectified in the future.

I have a reasonable take off to the north west clockwise round to the south. South west is poor due to Woolley Edge.

This receiver covers from 87.5 MHz to 108 MHz, which the FM-Broadcast-Band, also known as Band-II with WFM. It does NOT cover the aircraft band, as this is above 108 MHz. Sorry, it had to be said in simple terms, as there is still people who think it works on the aircraft band etc.

Please note: I CAN monitor every user/command/action on my node, and any abuse will not be taken lightly.

Enjoy listening to this receiver, but please bare in mind the following points.

• This one computer has to fulfill my personal needs aswell as stream this node.

• This computer is getting old, it's the only one I have, it's the best I can currently offer.

• Because of the above points, there may be times when the node may not run smoothly, or the "High Quality" listener feature may be temporally disabled.

• Don't forget, this is my (o_blackburn) receiver, a time may come when I need to use it myself, and when that time comes, I WILL take priority.

• If a problem develops, please let me know! If I am aware of a problem, I will fix it! I am not psychic so please inform me, it could just be a case of a simple reset!

Thank you for your co-operation.

It also has MW Coverage, although this is just a bonus feature, do not expect too much on that!
Note: This receiver is an import from the States, therefore tunes in 10 KHz steps on MW.

Stations upto 2/3KHz away should be listenable.
E.G.
830 KHz = Magic 828
910 KHz = BBC R5L 909
1090 KHz = Talksport 1089
Stations like Absolute 1215 KHz will not be listenable.

Occasionally, the XDR goes out of sync with the commands from the Arduino interface. This problem has been noted and will be sorted out as soon as possible. If you think it has gone out of sync, tune to a frequency away from the intended one, and then tune back. e.g. 106.2, try 105 or 107 and back to 106.2.
