Hi
[HCDX] Launch of HCJB/IBB DRM trial broadcasts on August 17

The HCJB Global Technology Center, based in Elkhart, IN, USA in cooperation
with the International Broadcasting Bureau, will begin a series of digital
broadcast test transmissions on shortwave starting on August 17. The
demonstration broadcasts are using IBB transmission facilities on the east
coast of the USA and a DRM exciter and content server developed by the HCJB
Global Technology Center. The broadcasts are operating at an average DRM
power of approximately 8 kW using a rhombic antenna aimed at 45 degrees on
15475 kHz from 2000 to 2200 UTC for reception in Europe and a log periodic
antenna aimed at 306 degrees on 9405 kHz from 0000 to 0400 UTC for reception
in North America. The broadcasts are expected to continue for at least
several weeks. Reception reports can be emailed to ibbhcjb@gmail.com
Please visit www.hcjb.org/tech for more information on the work of the HCJB
Global Technology Center.
Thanks to alokesh gupta for this information

Hi Gypsy,

QSL cards form HCJB/IBB DRM, wonder what they look like!
Last QSL card I got from a broadcaster was from Radio New Zealand eeeeons ago.
HCJB is an interesting station, in that they make their own transmitters and they are low-power too, 4 kW ONLY.

I have received them at night on Dorset DRM on 15 MHz, weak signal, but also being higher frequency, good signal to noise, so maybe marginal copy, but being DRM, great audio.

Dx wise to receive such a weak signal in Europe is exciting, given that Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador is some 9200 km away from London, on the West Coast side of South America and below the Equator.

Last but not least, thank for the frequencies, they are nowhere to be seen at www.drm.org schedule !
Hope you get to hear and decode them
Tim

Hi folks,

it might be known by several or all of u guys, but it was completely new to me. Have a look at http://n1su.com/fdmdv/ and read about a non-proprietary (as D-Star de facto is) digital voice mode, needing just 1100 Hz of bandwidth.

Dear Sven,
Other digital voice modes with the same bandwidth are also drmdv and windrm, both based on DRM technology for coding audio, sending text and small files and pictures as well, but using extremely low bandwidth, something very useful among radioamateurs on hf bands. If a good SNR exist, then the quality of communication is very good, with no QRM and other noise at all (like FM mode with sql). The applications are free to download and use with conventional receivers and transceivers and you can try to find such qso in 20m band (14236, 14320 USB) or in 80m (3730 LSB) or in other bands as it is written in previous posts. You can download all 3 digital voice modes from : http://dc105.4shared.com/download/114569603/c47a964f/Digital_Voice_Amateur__DRMDV_FDMDV_WinDRM_.zip

Nice food for thought from Sven, Emanuel.
Aki, or anyone else ? Can you decode DAB maybe ? Will be a bandwidth nightmare, I suppose..

Tim

Hi
Following is some information on Digital SSTV -

USA :-
Following are the timings when Digital SSTV nets are active -
7.173 Mhz Receiver Albany / Cleveland 12.30 utc onwards.
14.233 Mhz Receiver Albany / Cleveland 15.00 utc onwards you can also receive European stations sending digital pictures on this frequency.
3.857 Mhz Receiver Albany 11.00 utc onwards, this is a small net and lasts for a short time, but excellent signals, only weekdays.
3.713 Mhz Receiver North West Conneticut around 01.00 utc
EUROPE :-
3.733 Mhz Receivers Hannover, Atlantic, Ireland, Dorset, this frequency is very active lots of hams from UK. France, Germany, Austria to mention a few.
On this frequency Austria receiver has very strong signals at around 15.30 utc, maybe a Austrian digital sstv net ?
I have only received signals on this frequency in Europe, no other frequency I have received digi sstv in europe.
Australia :-
3.643 Mhz Brisbane, Logan HF, from around 07.00 utc
Japan :-
144.450 USB around 14.30 utc, received pics one day after that nothing
3.528 seems to be most active from what I understand at around 22.00 utc onwards, I have never received any pics on this frequency till now, though 7.178, 3.602, 3.608 also have carried pictures from hams in Japan
Much of the information regarding frequencies I have got from Digisite. Many of the pictures carry the frequency they are transmitted on.
I would appreciate if more information could be exchanged regasrding frequencies, especially the 2 metre nets, that would be interestng
